The 4.5 mile trail along the Blue Line is Charlotte’s Rail Trail, connecting neighborhoods from Sedgefield, Southside Park, Brookhill, Dilworth, Wilmore, and South End to Uptown. The idea of developing the Rail Trail into a linear park was part of the 2020 Center City Vision Plan adopted by City Council in 2011. Commissioned by Center City Partners, the Trail Design Collaborative of David Furman, FAIA (Centro CityWorks), Terry Shook, FAIA (President of Shook Kelly Inc.), and Richard Petersheim (Partner, LandDesign) have developed a vision of the Rail Trail park that is already taking shape as a network of gardens, public art, unique spaces and activities, and an endless string of places to sit, eat and play.
Join us to learn how the Rail Trail was initiated and has developed. The evening begins with a one hour reception, followed by Furman’s presentation and a Q&A session.
Members and students attend free; non-members pay $15.
Special thanks to JE Dunn for hosting us and to ACTIVATE Charlotte for financial support.
